you never know what you'll run into.......

caribu in the distance.

i'm glad the bears had no interest in us !!!!!!!

i think my dog is completely nuts! she weighs a wopping 40 pounds but when she see's a bear i swear she's a different dog. she goes nuts. it was a good thing i had her on a leash. and it's a good thing they were interest playing rather then with us. thet were about 25 feet from us.

rewards to seeing whats over the other side..

the rewards

this view is awsome and now i see a little lake i have to go check out. i'm already this far.

i'm here about 1200 in evevation...

ti

tiva not very happy to have her pic taken, she wanted to play but it was to dangerous there were cliffs.

you can see prince william sound to my left and exit glacier to my right....

goig up !!!!

i' at about 700 feet in elevation here and the temp. is still nice. a little windy though. from here at this elevation you can see prince william sound.

snow, great! all i can think is i got to go over that ridge an i don't know how stable the snow is. i was worried i'd start an avalanche. i was carefull and risked it. i just stayed towards the edge. but up that ridge and over the other side was where i was wanting to go....

lost for words....

  • this is pretty much starting off to byron glacier. tiva can already smell soming.. she was goin

you really don't know what true peace and quite is untill you find places like this. i'd say it was about 7 miles one way. not bad terrain though. as you'll see in some pic's i was worried about walking across and starting an avalanche.

yesturday was probably the best day we've had here in a long time. and to make a long story short i got out of work early and decided to just go hiking! somewhere, anywhere, my only thing was i wanted somewhere new to explore. i've explored alot of alaska, but for some reason yesturday was one of them really rare days when you go someplace nobody else probably has because it's next to impossible to get there. that is unless you're willing to hike! my first plan was to only hike the byron glacier, but when i got there things changed. i had excellent weather the whole time. which up here in alaska is extremely rare. exspecially where i was going. these mountains create they're own weather pattern. but anyhow the weather was to perfect to stay in!!!!

now i took alot of pictures and i'm not computer wiz, so i'll do my best to put them up and explain. to be breif. i started my hike at the byron glacier, inside chugiak national park. not really a place someone should be if they're not ready for what ever or if they don't know what they're doing. where i'm going is a place like people disapear when they don't have a clue. so it's important to know a little something before heading out to these places. anything could happen and they're would be nobody arround to help. you're basicly screwed. but as you will see the rewards are worth it, to me anyhow. i don't want to see it in national geographic, hell i want to be there myself. you know what i mean. so these pics. are of me and tiva exploring up in the mountains, about 1200 feet up in elevation. i seen bears and caribu. tiva was going nuts i had to put her on her leash. she was a little to brave with 2 big brown bears we ran into down into this vally i was going to to check out this lake. so i guess they found it first! but anyhow they were only about 20 feet from us. thank god they were to interested in playing. and plus i think tiva scared them off. it's hard to believe my 40 pound dog scared them. this dog is affraid of her own shaddow. but anyhow. enjoy the pics. and when i go back to that lake camping i found i'll take more pics.
